  Wedding time! We've been to Fancy Cakes by Leslie a couple times now - first to just get a couple cupcakes to satisfy our gluttony, then again to do a formal cake tasting for our upcoming wedding. We're planning on doing a cupcake tower rather than a cake, so we are able to incorporate different flavors and types throughout.
  
  We scheduled our appointment ahead of time and had to wait about 20 minutes because previous appointments ran long. We understand there's nothing you can do about that though. When we sat down (sorry, I forgot who our saleswoman was, but she was very nice), we were brought a plate of FCbL's 6 most popular wedding cakes (which could all be made into cupcake form). What I liked about FCbL more than any other place that we tried is that they also added dollops of 5 different icings on the side so we could also try mixing and matching with different flavors to find what we really liked the most.   While the cakes were all delicious, nothing was overly adventurous. Vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, almond, lemon, etc. Again, why stray from the tried-and-true if they're good?? Our saleswoman was very creative with her suggestions for the cupcake tower. Our wedding will be in winter and she was suggesting how we could have fondant snowflakes cascading down the side of the tower, sort of wrapping around as they fell. The ideas were great. We felt like we were sold on this one meeting, but you don't only want to test drive one car before buying.
  
  We were also slightly deterred by the pricing.. Normal sized cupcakes are $3.75 each. We were going to get 150, but downgraded to a smaller party size cupcake that were $2.95 each. On top of that, each fondant snowflake was going to cost $2.25 each. I'm sure they're nice, but I don't know... that nearly doubles the cost of a cupcake with a snowflake on it. After all the fees, we were looking at a price around $1000 all said and done. We carved a little off of what we wanted and got it down to $860, but at this point we were compromising, so we made sure to shop around a bit. We actually really liked FCbL, but ultimately went somewhere else that we thought was just as nice, had slightly tastier and more complexity to their cupcakes (again, my opinion) and where we didn't feel like we were compromising for cost savings (ended up getting everything we wanted for $660).
  
  Overall, cakes were really good (not necessarily great though), staff was very friendly and helpful, and I'd love to come back to satisfy that sweet tooth while hanging around Bethesda, but the prices were just a little too high for what we were looking to spend on a large event.
